Swimming Pools and Arenas Now Open!

Swimming pools reopen

Updated as of: July 2, 2024 at 11:05 AM MST

YMCA Calgary has reopened swimming pools, hot tubs, steam rooms, and ice rinks. Water conservation practices will remain in effect as we monitor relevant updates from the City of Calgary.

We thank our employees, volunteers, and members for following recommendations to limit non-essential water use. Since the Critical Water Supply alert from the City of Calgary, YMCA Calgary has reduced water usage by over 75%!

Our two large regional recreation centres are LEED Gold certified. We use recycled water in our operations where possible (e.g. using shower wastewater and pool backwashes to flush toilets), our washroom faucets are on sensors to limit waste, and all our showers are efficient and low flow (less than 4.5 L/minute vs. typical home shower of 10 L/minute)

We ask for your continued patience as we welcome thousands of Calgarians back into our pools!

Please refer to the City of Calgary emergency alert for more information and the FAQs below. We will update this page if there are any changes to our reopening schedule.

We will update you if there are any changes to our reopening schedule. If you are registered for swim lessons, you will also receive an email from our Aquatics teams with more details.

Final assessments will be completed based on skill progression demonstrated in swimming classes prior to the June 6th pool closures. Complete report cards will be available online on SwimGen, indicating which class the swimmer should be registered in next, based on this progress.

Any outstanding report cards will be available before Saturday, June 22.

Credits will be issued for all cancelled classes.  The process of issuing credits for each impacted individual and family is currently underway.  We appreciate your patience as we work to accurately process credits across the many branches and lessons impacted.

All Summer Camps (starting July 2) will continue as planned. This includes swim camps, skate camps, and swimming activities as part of day camp programming. Camp Chief Hector YMCA is not impacted by this situation and uses a local water source. YMCA Camp Riveredge remains open for programming and has a drinking water supply available to users.
