As part of our "Meet the Leaders of Your YMCA" series, we’re thrilled to introduce Brigitte Dionne-Bourassa, General Manager of the Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot. With over eight years at the helm, Brigitte brings passion, energy, and an incredible sense of community to the smallest YMCA branch in Calgary, one she proudly says has the biggest heart.
From motivating members in her Group Power classes to fostering connections that make every person feel at home at Melcor YMCA, to winning the YMCA Branch Battles with the most engaged staff, Brigitte’s leadership reflects the true spirit of the YMCA.
Hi Brigitte, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Bonjour! I’m Brigitte Dionne-Bourassa, and for the past eight years, I’ve had the honour of serving as the General Manager at the Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot. Before that, I was the Assistant General Manager at the Eau Claire YMCA in downtown Calgary. My YMCA journey has allowed me to witness firsthand how the Y transforms lives by fostering community, connection, and wellness.
What’s Your Favourite Activity at the YMCA?
One of my favourite things to do at the YMCA is teaching MOSSA Group Power classes. There’s nothing better than encouraging and motivating participants to achieve more than they thought possible. And let’s be honest, just because you’re working hard doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! My classes are filled with laughter and energy, and it’s such a joy to see people leave feeling stronger and more confident.
What Makes the YMCA Community Special?
The Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot may be the smallest of Calgary’s six branches, but we have the biggest heart. From the moment you walk through our doors, you can feel the sense of community. Members genuinely care about each other, and our staff team takes pride in getting to know everyone. It’s this warmth and connection that make our branch such a unique and welcoming space.
Your Best Tip for YMCA Members
If you want to get the most out of your YMCA membership, try attending fitness classes! They’re included with your membership, and we offer something for everyone, from aquafit and yoga to Zumba, group cycle, and strength classes. These classes are not just a great workout, they’re a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and be part of a supportive, fun-loving community.
Thanks for sharing your story with us, Brigitte!
